The Men’s first team have been developing and embedding new game structures with the arrival of new coaching staff. Many of the team were colts last year and are now key players within the men’s first team. This has also enabled them to field a men’s 2nd team, with the help of returning older players.
- The Women’s team have celebrated some successes, having played five games and won two. Also, the first player from the junior girls section has moved into the senior women’s team and has starred in every game so far!
- The Wolverhampton girls have clustered with Stafford RFU, to ensure that each age group in the girls section gets the opportunity to play games.
- Still popular with around 200 children each week, Mini and Junior teams continue to come together with the senior teams - even creating a guard of honour for our senior teams at home games!
- We end 2024 with some great news from the Junior and Colts section: nine U16 players, and five U15 players, as well as one Colt player, have been invited to train with Coventry Rugby Academy. The Coventry coaching team is led by Matt Jones who is a former a member of Wolverhampton Rugby club.
The U15s players, coached by Craig Smallman and Andrew Preston, are really pleased to be part of this newly formed development academy. Aswell as new players, they have players who have been with them for seven years. The lads are looking forward strengthening their skill set even further and sharing it with the rest of the team.
The young men in the U16s age group have also been invited to explore the possibility of studying at The Spires sixth form in Wolverhampton on their Rugby programme which starts in September 2025. This is a great opportunity for them to combine their studies with rugby training and fixtures.
In their older category, Chad White who plays in the Colts age group has been offered a place in the Coventry Rugby Academy Elite Player Development Squad and will begin his training in January 2025.
Serious progress is being made within Wolverhampton Rugby Club under the steer of Craig Smallman and Jennifer McIntosh – and we couldn’t be more proud to be the club’s main sponsor. Keen to see what the remainder of the season holds for them as we enter into 2025; the 150th year of the club – and also the year of the Women’s Rugby World Cup back in England.
