Congratulations to Lewis Trout: From Apprentice to Civil Engineering Graduate at McAuliffe Group
30 Oct 2024
Lewis Trout, our Apprentice Civil Engineer, aged 23, has graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a 2:1 BEng (Hons) Degree in Civil & Transportation Engineering
We couldn’t be more proud of Lewis.
The past five years Lewis has been studying part-time for his university course whilst also working at McAuliffe Group as an Apprentice Civil Engineer. He has slotted into the Technology & Engineering department seamlessly, working alongside Doug and Jim, producing volumetric drawings and As-Built surveys, whilst also ensuring the smooth running of our extensive in house fleet of 3D GPS enabled plant as part of his site engineer activities.
Since joining McAuliffe in 2019, the apprenticeship has provided him with first-hand experience on projects such as: HS2 Curzon Street enabling works site in Birmingham and other large projects around the West Midlands. This has allowed him to develop first-rate site skills in conjunction with studying the theory/background of civil engineering.
In Lewis’ words the apprenticeship has enabled him to “earn while I learn” and has given him “invaluable site experience and exposure to a large range of active projects” that studying solely in university full-time would not have given him.
At McAuliffe, we're deeply committed to equipping all our employees with the skills they need for a fulfilling, lifelong career. Through partnerships with the City of Wolverhampton College, the University of Wolverhampton, and local training providers, we’re creating opportunities for young people to join our team, and supporting our current staff in advancing their skills. From Construction Plant Operative Apprentices and Haulage Controllers to Trainee Accountants and Assistant Engineers, we’re excited to welcome our next cohort and continue investing in the future of our workforce.
