McAuliffe appointed to former MG works, Birmingham

02 Jan 2025

Vistry has appointed McAuliffe Group to carry out full remediation works on the Longbridge scheme in Birmingham, which was formerly home to the MG Rover factory.

Over 50 weeks, the team will carry out demolition, asbestos removal works and earthworks, and cut & fill to create new public open spaces. The team will maximize the re-use of aggregates and will also be preparing a listed building, which will form part of the housing development on the brownfield site.

Described as one of the country’s biggest regeneration schemes, nearly 700 sustainable homes will  be built on this 20 hectare site. They will be built with a focus on sustainability, including air source heat pumps rather than gas boilers; PV panels that will provide renewable electricity; and waste-water recovery to minimise water usage.

Vistry has partnered with affordable housing developer Bromford who will acquire 250 of the proposed homes and these will be available as a mixture of social rent and shared ownership. The remaining will be available via private rental sector and open market for private ownership.

There will be economic growth benefits to the local Birmingham community including on-site employment, spaces for community uses and public open space.
