Both new starters will spend six months working in the business’ Bilston recycling centre. They’ll get hands-on experience in a broad range of site duties, from painting and machine maintenance to the crushing and screening of recycled aggregates.
McAuliffe will take on multiple local workers through the Kickstart Scheme in 2021, giving each recruit the opportunity to move into a full-time role at the end of their placement.
Alongside its involvement with the scheme, the business has partnered with City of Wolverhampton College’s Plant Training Centre to create a stream of new apprenticeships.
The partnership forms part of ambitious plans by McAuliffe to create 200 local jobs by 2027.
Anna-Maria McAuliffe, Director at McAuliffe, said: “Like many local people, our new colleagues struggled to find work during the pandemic, and needed an opportunity to up their skills.
“By working with us, they’ll get exposure to a real mix of site duties to add to their CVs. All under the supervision of a highly experienced team.
“The Kickstart Scheme is an excellent support for businesses like ours, who want to do their bit to provide local jobs and learn more about how to help people into work.”
Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, and Mike Hardacre, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at City of Wolverhampton Council, came to McAuliffe’s Bilston HQ to welcome the new starters.
Councillor Hardacre said: “It was fantastic to speak to both recruits, and see how confident they were after just one day of work. They’ve landed on their feet at McAuliffe, and I’m sure they both have a bright future ahead.”
