McAuliffe welcomes first Young Person apprentice

10 Feb 2022

McAuliffe has welcomed its first Young Person Apprentice to its growing site team.

Zak, 16, has started a Level 2 Construction Plant Operative apprenticeship, which will see him learn how to safely look after, maintain, and operate a range of plant over a 15–18-month period.

He will also be taught health, safety, welfare, and environmental requirements, as well as how site plans and work programmes are devised. This will include the marshalling of other construction equipment, and how to assist in securing for transport.

As a Young Person Apprentice, Zak will work under the close supervision of McAuliffe’s experienced site team throughout his placement.

Anna-Maria McAuliffe, director and apprenticeship lead at McAuliffe Group, said:

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for young people to gain skills for work, giving them hands-on experience on live projects.

“Zak is itching to learn, and follows in the footsteps of his dad, Mick, who is one of our senior site managers and also joined us after leaving school at 16!”

Over the course of the year, McAuliffe will take on more plant operative apprentices through its partnership with City of Wolverhampton College’s Plant Training Centre, helping to create local job opportunities.

As members of The 5% Club, the business currently has at least 5% of its workforce in apprenticeships or formal training.
