This year we say thank you and congratulations to the following four Long Service Award recipients:
- Aaron Bakewell – 10 years
- Nick Jones – 10 years
- Stephen Norton – 10 years
- Tim Pitt – 20 years
Let’s get to know our Long Service Award colleagues better!
Aaron Bakewell
Aaron is a Site Supervisor and one of our dual-qualified, SMSTS 50T excavator operators. He started working at McAuliffe ten years ago as hired help through an agency. Starting out on a site in Stourbridge as a general labourer and dumper driver, Aaron’s great work ethic impressed site management who brought him onto our books full time! When not working, Aaron can be found at a music festival with a beer in hand.
Nick Jones
Nick is a skilled excavator driver who has been with McAuliffe for ten years in 2024. He has excellent knowledge of the work and projects we undertake, and his experience and skills are huge assets to our company. Nick’s conscientious and always gets to the bottom of a job, asking the right questions to get it done. Originally from Nottingham and now based in Wolverhampton, he is a dedicated family man who outside of work can be found taxiing his children from class to class.
Stephen Norton
One of our longest-serving HGV drivers, Steve joined McAuliffe in 2014. During his career to date, Steve has also acted as a foreman, including on a recent HS2 site, and worked away for us for twelve months on a job in Bristol. Steve was the first to sleep in our brand-new sleeper cab, having been in charge of it for just one week. Steve is a Wednesbury man through and through, and in fact used to be a market trader. Colleagues describe him as “reliable, loyal, a joker, who likes a few pints, who is skilled at a post-pint forward roll”. When not working, Steve can be found clay pigeon shooting or tending to his koi carp, named One and Two. “If One goes missing, he’ll always have Two!”.
Tim Pitt
Tim joined McAuliffe in 2004 and in the twenty years since has progressed through the ranks, starting out as a labourer, moving to plant operator on various machines, site foreman, demolition operative, to his position now as our Contracts Manager, specialising in intricate demolition projects. He holds his Black CCDO Demolition Manager Card and is a highly-regarded member of the team. Outside of work, Tim is either at the gym or on a motorcross bike with his kids. He is a hardworking, trustworthy, happy, family man, whose body is a temple and who never has a hair out of place, head or face!
And we must also mention our long-term team member Chris Cassell who has well and truly surpassed the twenty-year milestone, having been with McAuliffe for 37 years this year. Chris is our highly experienced and highly regarded Operations Director. We celebrated his 20+ years in 2012 when he had completed 25 years’ service. Chris started his career with McAuliffe at just 16 years old and could now be considered a piece of the furniture - although 37 years ago, ‘furniture’ consisted of tyres in the yard!
We are proud of – and grateful for – the commitment and dedication these hard-working employees have shown to McAuliffe, our work and our clients. We thank them and wish them continued success in their careers with McAuliffe.
