The state-of-the-art plant is expected to process up to 436,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste every year and generate 49MW of baseload electricity – enough to power around 90,000 households.
More than 300 workers will be employed during the construction period, and around 60 local, high-skilled jobs will be created when the facility becomes operational.
McAuliffe has had extensive early contractor involvement over the past 12 months, supporting the design and development of the enabling groundworks, alongside Encyclis’ advisors, Fichtner Consulting Engineers.
Ground engineering works will begin in December, providing a development platform for the follow-on EPC Contractor, HZI, who are expected to commence the main works later in 2024.
John McAuliffe, Group Managing Director at McAuliffe Group, said:
“We are delighted as a local contractor to have worked closely with Encyclis – one of the leading Energy from Waste operators in the UK – to help get this scheme off the ground.
“This is a massive investment in the local area and will be a real boost to the local economy.”
